Solve a Quadratic Equation

A quadratic equation has the form:

   ax² + bx + c = 0

You may use this active server page to solve a quadratic equation by entering the

+ x + = 0     

One solves a quadratic equation using the quadratic formulae:

The solutions are known as zeros or roots of the equation and these are denoted by the values x1 and x2. There are often two solutions. However, there will be only one solution if b2 - 4ac is zero. If this term is negative, there is no real solution! In this case, the roots are imaginary.
